Repurpose old furniture rather than buying new.
Designer and homeowner Barbara Purdy converted a wood-burning fireplace to gas to create a cosy focal point in this room. I couldn't see myself hauling logs down the stairs, she states. Radiant heating installed beneath the wood-look porcelain-tile flooring adds much more warmth. The couch, a hand-me-down from her parents, was recovered and layered with pillows. Work with plumbing.
Putting this shower beside the pipes shaft made room for a freestanding sink at the little bathroom. New pipes was inserted from the laundry room, along with the HVAC ducts were increased into the ceiling joists to allow for as much headroom as possible.
Present Storage-Use storage space under the stairs instead of building new closets.
In Tanya Linton's home, every spare nook is used for additional storage. With two little boys running round, baskets are best for concealing toys and knickknacks. In a little corner, a stack of books and magazines doubles as a side table into a painted chair.
High-Low Laundry Room-Dress up basic basement cabinets with vintage drawer pulls.
Designer Theresa Casey renovated her 600-square-foot cellar to include an office, guest bedroom plus luxe laundry space. She saved on affordable white lacquered cabinetry but additional vintage grips, a marble counter tops, a gallery wall along with a vintage ladder to generate the utilitarian space look unique.
Modern Laundry Room
Consider bench pinning as a cheaper alternative to digging a basement. The laundry area of the renovated basement was created to be clean and bright with lots of storage. Simple drawers and cabinets maintain everything from linens to sports gear arranged and out of sight. A farmhouse sink and industrial design sink and art lined across the countertop create the decoration more worthy of a main-floor room than a cellar for chores. Accessories like fitting canisters and a dim tray finish off the look.
Craft Area-Plan for multiuse corners to optimize performance in a small basement.
This laundry room doubles as a storage space, craft area and wrapping centre. Cabinetry constructed along the walls opposite the appliances retains lightbulbs, batteries, extra garbage bags and other household materials. A pegboard equipped with hanging containers and tiny sticks keeps craft and wrap materials arranged while an adjoining corkboard displays inspirational photographs for craft and reno jobs. Open shelves have been placed high on the walls to add storage space without making the little room feel closed ; baskets and bins are used here to keep modest items corralled.
